21c.jpg“Panda Class” is a long-term public science education program established by Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation, to publicize the knowledge for the protection of giant pandas also for other animals and plants living in the giant panda reserves such as the golden monkey and red panda.

The “Panda Class” Phase II----“Cross-Strait Research Camp for Giant Panda Conservation Education” was held from August 11 to the 18 2013. The “Research Camp”, co-sponsored by Chengdu Giant Panda Public Education Research Institution, Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Foundation, and Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, invited a delegation of 34 people from C.C.C.C.I.A. for Giant Panda and New Taipei Association of School Principals to Chengdu for the event. The two parties exchanged experiences and achievements in the public education on giant pandas and other rare and endangered species conservation, discussed international development trends in this respect, and shared the results of giant pandas and other endangered species conservation. More importantly, this event has promoted further cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation in the areas of ecological protection.

During the “Research camp”, guests and principals experienced the work of giant panda keeper as they washed bamboos, made steamed corn bread for pandas and fed them. By doing this, all the guests recognized and understood the difficulties of the giant panda breeding and protection. The guests and principals visited the “Panda Valley” in Dujiangyan, the Wild-release Center of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, learned about the efforts of Chengdu Giant Breeding Research Foundation concerning the reintroduction of giant pandas to the wild, recognized the importance of releasing endangered species to the wild, and more deeply understood the importance of protecting nature and the habitat of endangered species such as the giant panda.
